Peter Burke and Kate O'Toole who were both born circa 1855-1860 were married in Dublin about 1875-1880. Peter was a docker and Kate was a hawker in the Daisy Market.

John was mostly self educated.He became politically involved in the Dublin Lockouts of 1913.This resulted in him serving a month in prison for his activities.On his release he found himslf to be blacklisted with regard to employment in Ireland and he was forced to leave his wife and family and make his way to Britain.He travelled through Wales and England living rough and picking up odd jobs until he eventually ended up in Glasgow where he found employment and accomodation for his family at 40 Brown St.They lived in this house until 1961 when the building was demolished

Died Feb.24 1970.Glasgow.
Mother: Mary Walsh b.abt 1869. Father: Michael Kelly or Kealy. Mary Walsh was unmarried so her daughter Mary was illegitimate.It is not known if Michael is named in the birth certificate as the father.Some time later Mary Walsh married Thomas Ellis and he brought up her daughter Mary as his own.She was known from that time as Mary Ellis.Mary Walsh's parents were Thomas Walsh and Susan Walls.Thomas was a regular soldier in the British Army.He served in the 60th King's Royal Rifle Corps.
