At present the only recorded facts about Francis and Roseanne are from the Old Parish Register at the time of their marriage.The entry just states that they were both residing in Anderston .There is no way of knowing when, how or why they came to live in Scotland.The information that they came from Ireland appeared in the census of 1841.Francis and daughter Margaret are not in the 1851 or any later census,so it must be assumed that they both died prior to April 1851.There were several epidemics of typhoid fever and cholera in Glasgow during the 1840's which killed almost 10,000 people.Roseanne lived in Anderston until she died there in 1872. In the official records there are several variations of her christian name.In the marriage record she is Rosa Birrel,in every census she is Roseanne and on her son John's marriage certificate she is Rosina.As both Francis and Roseanne were illiterate they relied on others to write down any information which was required .This fact plus their Irish accent would acount for these errors.Her name was probably the Irish name Roisin which is pronounced Rosheen.

John married Flora Campbell, in Glasgow.At the time of their marriage John was a Boilermaker and Flora was a Mill Worker.They were both illiterate at that time,but later John learned to read and write.Flora was still illiterate when John died in 1893,as she was unable to sign the death certificate and used an X (her mark).Three daughters ,Roseanne,Jane and Mary died in childhood.Of the three other daughters,Bethia was married but Flora and Jane(No.2) who was called Jeanie remained spinsters.As far as is known only two of their six sons were married.Francis(Frank) and Alexander (Sanny).Duncan joined the army and was last heard of in 1893 when his father died.James who suffered from T.B.died in 1913,John who was a seaman died in a fire aboard his ship and Joseph who was a Merchant Seaman died as a result of a railway accident in Liverpool.

Alex.Macluskey married Eliz.Ronald (nee McFarlane) in May 1902.He was a widower with two young children,his first wife Susan having died from childbed fever on July 26 1900,and she was a widow with one child.Her other five children had died as youngsters.Their first born boy died,but Agnes,Alex. and Jane(Jeanie)all survived.

John McFarlane married Eliz.McDermid or McDiarmid, in Glasgow.At the time of their marriage John was a flesher(butcher) and Lizzie was a farm servant.He later became a Railway Goods Porter and was still in that job when he died suddenly of an epilectic seizure in 1886.Lizzie died in 1913.They had five children Helen Jul.27 th 1861, Margaret Aug;6th 1862, Elizabeth , John Mar.14th 1868, Agnes Jun. 11 1871. All were born in the Cowcaddens area of Glasgow.
